Carmela is a Canadian/American who grew up in Mexico. She graduated from Dordt College in NW Iowa with a Bachelor of Psychology and Exercise Science in 2008. She stayed in Iowa for a couple of years to continue her job as a Spanish-English interpreter for various clinics, agencies and organizations, among other jobs. In 2010 she moved to St. Catherines, ON looking for a change of pace and found it working for Bakker Nurseries where she greatly enjoyed her time in the sun and learning about the many variteties of trees and shrubs grown there. Carmela continued her learnning as a research assistant for the CHILD Studies Program during her third year of nursing at the University of Calgary.
